Why Legacy of Texas

The only bookstore that answers directly to Texas history.

We are not a marketplace reseller. We are the publishing arm of the Texas State Historical Association (TSHA), the state’s oldest learned society. Every book, map, and print here is chosen, and often made, by the people who’ve spent 125+ years researching Texas’s past. If you want it to be right, this is where you get it.

Texas’s Longest Running Publisher

TSHA Press has published Texas history books since 1918—five new original titles every year, researched and vetted by our own historians.

The Official State Book of Texas

The Texas Almanac isn’t just popular, it’s now legally recognized as the State Book of Texas. Nobody else can say that.

Your Purchase Funds the Mission

Proceeds support Texas History Day, the Southwestern Historical Quarterly, and free educator resources statewide.

New From TSHA Press

Straight from TSHA Press: original research, biographies, and the stories other publishers won’t touch.
